Gebre is a young boy from Ethiopia whose life was turned upside down when conflict forced his family to flee their home. They lost almost everything, and hunger quickly became part of everyday life. His father works hard doing day labor, but many days there simply was not enough food for the family. Gebre remembers going to bed hungry and worrying constantly about when he would get to eat again.
Everything began to change when Convoy of Hope stepped in.
Through Convoy of Hope’s Children’s Feeding program, Gebre now receives daily nutritious meals at school. For the first time in a long time, he does not have to fear hunger. His mother also joined Convoy’s Women’s Empowerment program, which helped her start a small business so she could support the family with dignity and stability.
Today, Gebre proudly says that his family has “never starved again.” Instead of worrying about food, he can finally focus on being a child — going to school, dreaming about his future, and working toward his goal of becoming a doctor. His story is a powerful reminder of how kindness, support, and consistent meals can truly change a child’s life and give a family hope again.
